Madame Bastet
1435, southern Spain. There once was a kitten, very unique among her feline race at the time, that was born with no fur. She was chased from every hearth, starved and stoned and cursed at every sighting by the locals. A band of Romany passing through witnessed the rejection of this kitten by the townspeople, took her in and made her well again. In time, an elder of the caravan called Delia took a special liking to the cat and she to the woman. She took to traveling in this woman’s vardo as her husband had long passed and all her sons had married off. She had never had a daughter and loved the cat as such. Years passed and never was the woman seen without her svelte feline child and fashioned her outfits to protect her from the cold in winter and shaded her amongst her skirts as they traveled. The kitten had grown into a lovely cat and learned from her surrogate madre even as she always managed to warn her of approaching danger such as local magistrates and ill-meaning townspeople. Until there came a time that the old woman fell ill. But Delia had known the time would come and planned for this day. That evening, as she fell into her final slumber with her faithful cat daughter by her side, she untethered a spell of great magic. Delia’s final gift was to make her daughter immortal. A great gift, in theory, but the Roma magic did not know what to do with her felinity so she became a human-sized cat with all the knowledge and memories of her beloved caretaker. She stayed with the Roma for many years but as the world changed and the people she knew and loved passed on, she began to search for new companions. Until she found her tribe among the councils of Halloween Hollow.
